Parade of the Planets: A Fairytale Journey Through the Worlds of the Solar System

Image
Episode 13 of Tales of Astronomy , titled Parade of the Planets , is a wonderful turning point in the series. Instead of focusing on just one planet, this episode looks back at the entire Solar System and brings together many of the scientific ideas introduced in earlier adventures. True to the spirit of the series, it does this not through a dry review lesson, but through a magical and imaginative story full of humor, worry, invention, and reflection. At the heart of the episode is a familiar pattern that Tales of Astronomy handles especially well: fear leads to curiosity, and curiosity leads to knowledge. This time, the fear comes from Pitia, who has heard that a “parade of the planets” is coming and immediately assumes it must mean bad luck and disaster. To calm her down, Yavor, Kristina, and Wendelin use a strange new invention — a machine that captures and displays memories. With its help, they revisit everything they have learned so far about the planets. This structure mak...

What We Can Learn About Success From The World Cup

Image
FIFA World Cup Maybe no other athletic event in history has ever generated as much enthusiasm and emotion. Although there are predictions about which teams will advance before and throughout the competition, as it goes on, its surprising results consistently astound the globe. The competition this year was no different. I was impressed by what these soccer games may teach us about success - in whatever undertakings we pursue - when I watched the recent World Cup and became engrossed in the excitement of the game. The six lessons I learned are listed below. Successful teamwork is necessary Unquestionably one of the finest soccer players in the world, Argentina's Lionel Messi was crucial to the success of his side. To move on to the quarterfinals, Argentina needed to win their game. On the other hand, France benefited from the players' combined abilities, which helped the squad win the title. In the business sector, putting all the responsibility for a project's success on o...

Awaken the Leader Within by Bill Perkins

Image
Leadership, according to former US president Dwight D. Eisenhower, is the ability to persuade someone else to act out of his motivation. You are buying into two facts if you adopt this definition of leadership, which happens to be my favorite. The first reality is that you are a leader. Everyone in the audience raised their hands and nodded their heads when I asked them a very simple question: Have you ever been in a situation at work or at home where you tried to get someone else to do something immediately? Usually, when I make that observation during business seminars, I'm met with looks of disbelief. According to Eisenhower's definition, the moment you make an effort to influence another person, you become a leader. Given the correctness of the concept, the problem isn't whether you're a leader; it's how you can lead more successfully. The answer to that question reveals a second fact arising from Eisenhower's definition: leaders are created, not born. Ther...

THE PROCESS OF ATTACHMENT IS A LIFELONG ONE

Humans require each other, thus we want intimacy from the start, so to speak, from the minute we enter the world. And it is at this point that our attachment style emerges, which may have a catastrophic impact on all of our relationships, even those we have later in life."At this moment, attachment theory is acknowledged as one of the most fundamental and crucial ideas employed in most forms of psychotherapy."Integrative psychotherapy is equally important among them." What exactly is attachment? Attachment theory was developed by John Bowlby. He studied how different animal species act in the presence and absence of their mother and based on his results, he developed a theory. He discovered, among other things, that the attachment system created during childhood is carried over into adulthood and influences how we behave, think, reacts, and establish links.. (e.g. attachment to significant others, thinking about yourself and others, the environment...). Attachment is th...
