Awaken the Leader Within by Bill Perkins
Leadership, according to former US president Dwight D. Eisenhower, is the ability to persuade someone else to act out of his motivation. You are buying into two facts if you adopt this definition of leadership, which happens to be my favorite. The first reality is that you are a leader. Everyone in the audience raised their hands and nodded their heads when I asked them a very simple question: Have you ever been in a situation at work or at home where you tried to get someone else to do something immediately? Usually, when I make that observation during business seminars, I'm met with looks of disbelief. According to Eisenhower's definition, the moment you make an effort to influence another person, you become a leader. Given the correctness of the concept, the problem isn't whether you're a leader; it's how you can lead more successfully. The answer to that question reveals a second fact arising from Eisenhower's definition: leaders are created, not born. There are specific things you need to do to hone your leadership skills, regardless of whether you've recently been thrust into a leadership role and feel as out of place as a turtle in a road race or you're in charge of a Fortune 500 company. This is because effective leadership is an art and comes from hard work, not good genes. The fundamental chords of leading may be studied, rehearsed, and mastered much like the fundamental chords of any musical instrument. The fundamentals of leadership are the same and must be mastered regardless of whether I'm consulting with the CEO of a $100,000,000 company about business strategies or counseling a mother or father about child-rearing strategies. While natural talent is a shortcut to musical excellence, processing that talent doesn't negate the necessity of hard work. Similar to how some people are born with a natural ability for leadership, others must study the craft and put a lot of effort into learning the foundations. Even those with less natural leadership ability can succeed if they are prepared to learn and apply the fundamentals. Effective leadership requires diligent research and hard labor. I didn't write this book to provide you comfort reading to get you through the day; it's not meant to give you a fantasy faith boost like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, who flew home after you clicked your heels together and declared there was no place like home. Jesus' leadership style, which forms the foundation of this book's teaching, is not based on wishful thinking or a nice feeling like some may imagine; rather, it is based on a life that has shown honesty, vision, sacrifice, and love. Jesus started a movement that has inspired millions of people for the past 20 centuries in just 3.5 years, all without leaving his hometown, without authoring a book, without leading an army, and without having a governmental position. How could one individual have such a big impact on the globe? He used methods that we may learn, apply, and finally perfect while directly instructing folks. His plan was thoroughly thought out and the result of a guy with excellent character and well-honed leadership abilities, not the outcome of a fortuitous roll of the dice. He wasn't successful because he assembled a group of superstars; rather, it was because he taught his group the morals and abilities that they would later need to impart to others. Having said that, I want you to know that I'm not writing this book from the vantage point of someone who has attained the height of success and from my lofty vantage point in telling you how to get where I am. Jesus' harshest words were aimed at leaders who looked competent on the outside but were rotten on the inside. I understand what it's like to be the leader of a quickly expanding company and what it's like to lead while failure is staring me in the face. In most ways, I still look forward to seeing my goals come true, but in one regard, I consider myself at least somewhat adept at taking charge when the going gets rough and the benefits are few. for the man or woman who aspires to be a leader in the image of Jesus and who seeks to grow both personally and professionally. If you are that sort of a leader, fasten your seatbelt because you are about to go on a journey that will bring out the best in you. In the first half of the book, you'll learn how Jesus' knowledge may help you develop the qualities of a leader. In the second half of the book, you'll learn how Jesus provided 6 essential leadership abilities and how you can learn to use and master them.To interpret the wisdom of Jesus into understandable and applicable words, I've made use of the greatest leadership books currently accessible. I'm going to discuss the knowledge I've acquired through giving leadership seminars all around the country, meeting with businessmen, and working as a church pastor.Yes, you searched for a few concepts that you could use right away. Every time you listen to the book, remind yourself that making tiny adjustments over time will eventually lead to a dramatically improved situation. Each of us is like a jet taking off from an airport; with just a 2% change in course, we'll fly from Los Angeles to a location that is 2,000 miles distant. And over the next year, you will undoubtedly lead the people you are in charge of to a better place if the knowledge of Jesus leads you to become 2% more like him in your leadership style. Jesus' knowledge. Jesus exhibited integrity, foresight, sacrifice, and love. Jesus used deliberate leadership strategies that we can learn, apply, and perfect. Jesus asked his group to imitate him.
