Muladhara chakra - the cradle of our spiritual potential
The Muladhara Chakra is the first and primary chakra in the seven-member chakra system. The word Muladhara (Sanskrit: मूलाधार) is Sanskrit and means root or support (Mula - root and adhara - base, foundation). Hence this chakra is also known as the root chakra.
The root chakra is associated with existential instincts such as the primary instinct for survival, the instinctive need for food, sex, home security, and family affiliation. It is connected with the unconscious part of the mind, where the experiences of past lives are stored. Genetic inheritance is also located here. It is believed that in this chakra is sublimated the total energy potential of man - sexual, emotional, mental, and spiritual.
It is located at the bottom of the pelvis, between the anus and the perineum in men, i.e., in the cervix area in women. From here, start the three primary nodes, Ida, Pingala, and Sushumna, which connect Muladhara with the other six chakras, located along the spine, to the top of the head. It has a primary meaning and depends on the balance and openness of the upper chakras, which reflects on man's overall psychophysical state.
The organs associated with the Muladhara chakra are the adrenal glands, the nose (sense of smell), and the anus (the organ of activity). Muladhara also regulates the function and development of the skeletal system to which the body is attached, the legs - as a stable supporting structure of the body and its movement and the feet that are in direct contact with the ground.
Kundalini Shakti - divine energy
The Muladhara Chakra is the "sleeping" Kundalini Shakti energy seat. Kundalini Shakti is one and only, but it has different qualities and properties, depending on the quality and quality of the chakra through which it is manifested. With the activation of Kundalini Shakti, we become able to break through the path to the light of knowledge, which leads to self-realization. Yoga aims to awaken the Kundalini and direct it to the upper chakras and reach the Sahasrara (crown chakra). In contrast, pure energy (Shakti) will unite with pure consciousness (Shiva).
Attributes
Color - red, element - earth, seed mantra - LAM, animal - elephant
Muladhara connects our body and mind with the element earth, and thus with the qualities of firmness and structure, which support our whole being. It is presented as a dark red lotus with four petals that represent the four functions of the psyche: mind (Manas), intellect (Buddy), consciousness (Citta), and ego (Ahamkara). Corresponds to the bidja mantra LAM, written in the yellow square located in the lotus center. In the center of the court is a triangle whose vertex is directed downwards. It symbolizes female energy. The triangle is represented on an elephant with seven trumpets that symbolize wisdom, stability, firmness, and vital elements for physical functioning. Inside the triangle is a swayambhu lingam, spirally wrapped in a golden snake, wrapped three and a half times (the snake represents the Kundalini shakti). The ruling deities are Brahma, the creator of the Universe, and the goddess Dakini.
When the Muladhara chakra is out of balance
Muladhara chakra can be in imbalance if our basic, elementary needs are endangered, i.e., if our existence is endangered. Fear quickly infiltrates our thoughts and makes us feel insecure. We may become distracted by overthinking about our own well-being. These symptoms can lead to hypochondria and even general paranoia in some people. An unbalanced root chakra means confusing thoughts, an unstable mind, and changeable feelings. All this is reflected in our daily lives. We can not find ourselves, face fear, anxiety, have a negative attitude towards ourselves the environment. It is also possible to have a healthy attitude towards food (we eat either too little or too little or too much). As a result, our self-confidence is extremely low, and we have difficulties when we have to make a decision.
When it is in balance
A well-balanced Muladhara means to be motivated, to be able to make decisions quickly, and to take responsibility for our own lives. We deal with fear and stress efficiently. We feel calm, stable, secure, and comfortable in ourselves. An open root chakra means a strong person with a sense of belonging to family and nature. Working at Muladhara frees us from the negative patterns associated with its function. Also, a balanced root chakra helps us to be able to learn from life experiences and not dwell on painful memories, especially memories associated with betrayed trust. We understand others, forgive quickly, and know-how to take responsibility for our lives.
Physical anomalies
Abnormalities associated with an unbalanced root chakra can occur in the corresponding parts of the body, so the exhaustion of the adrenal glands caused by constant stress indicates a weak root chakra. Muladhara is also responsible for bowel function, stool regulation, and the release of toxic substances. In addition, back and leg pain is expected if the root chakra is unbalanced. Physical problems potentially caused by a blocked root chakra include low energy levels and cold extremities.
Early childhood
Each chakra is associated with a specific period of life. Muladhara is the first and primary chakra is related to the period from birth to the seventh year of life. We are firmly rooted in the physical world during this early childhood, connected to parents, with trust and an innate sense of belonging. If this period was problematic, the trust was broken, there was abuse, etc., then the child can lay unstable foundations in the psyche.
Several ways to balance the root chakra
Since the element with which the root chakra is connected is the earth, and the color is red, to balance it, it is recommended to walk barefoot on the ground, spend more time in nature, dress in red… The root chakra, in fact, like all other chakras, can be balanced by practicing the following techniques:
Meditation - sit in a comfortable sitting position with your back straight. The palms are on the knees in Prithvi Mudra. Relax the muscles and focus on the pelvis. Visualize a red light (or red lotus…) in the bottom of the pelvis. Imagine red light spreading across your pelvis… Maintain awareness of red light, body position, and body contact with the ground… Stay in a situation and work as comfortable as you can.
Yoga asana practice - attention should be focused on the stability of the posture, i.e., the feeling of connection with the ground below us (feet - if standing, buttocks - if sitting, or torso - if lying down). Appropriate asanas stimulate the mentioned parts of the body - adrenal glands, perineum, pelvis, spine, legs. By doing so, we increase the earth element in our being. In addition, withstanding asanas improve general balance and stability, which are most valuable when working with the root chakra. Also, by practicing Mula banda, we directly stimulate the root chakra.
Diet:
It is recommended to reduce sugar and salt, saturated fats, and more consumption of vegetables and fruits. To balance the root chakra, we should eat first of all foods rich in protein - (beans, tofu, peas, spinach, and almonds), then red food that automatically affects the root chakra due to its connection with the red color - (strawberries, cherries, tomatoes, and red peppers) as well as red root vegetables.
Affirmations - The basic affirmation of the root chakra is: "I am (I)." Other affirmative pronouns that we can use to balance this chakra are: "Wherever I am, I am safe and secure," "At this moment I am stable, grounded and relaxed," "I have a healthy body, a healthy mind and an abundant life" "I am anchored on earth and supported by the Universe," "The Universe always supports me and shows me where to go next," "I am safe and happy in my home."
Crystals with their vibration, which is immutable, are also thought to affect the balancing of the chakras, as each chakra has its own vibration. For example, the minerals and crystals associated with Muladhara chakra are red or black - black tourmaline, black obsidian, smoky quartz, red jasper, ruby…
