Mortal Kombat is an upcoming film, which is Simon McQuoid's directorial and production debut the film. The film is based on the game series of the same name and is also a reboot of the 1995 film.



In August 2015, James Wang was appointed as one of the film's producers.  Simon McQuoid was hired to direct in 2016, along with screenwriter Greg Russo. In February 2019, Russo announced that the script was ready. In May 2019, the film entered the pre-production stage.Movie Trailer


The film was supposed to be released worldwide on January 15, 2021, but due to the virus, it was postponed to April 16, 2021.MMA fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan) with a mysterious dragon mark is targeted by Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim), an Outworld warrior. Wanting to save his family, Cole goes to Lord Raiden - the god of thunder and protector of the Earth Kingdom. Now the hero, along with other warriors, will have to fight the fighters of the Outworld at the "Mortal Kombat" tournament to save the Earth from conquest. In 2010, director Kevin Tancharoen released an eight-minute short film entitled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth] as a step towards Warner Bros. Pictures to relaunch Mortal Kombat. In September 2011, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. announced that Tancharoen had been hired to direct a new feature film from Mortal Kombat Rebirth screenwriter Oren Uziel to make an R-rated film. Filming was expected to begin in March 2012 with a budget of $ 40 million to $ 50 million and a release date for the film in 2013. However, the project was eventually shelved due to budgetary constraints, and Tancharoen began working on the second season of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series until the film's problems were resolved. However, he dropped production of the film in October 2013.


James Wang was signed as the film's producer in August 2015. Simon McQuoid was named director in November 2016, marking his directorial debut. Greg Russo was hired to write the film. In February 2019, Russo tweeted that the script for the film was completed.  In May 2019, it was announced that filming had begun and the film would be filmed in South Australia, with a release date of January 8, 2021. In July 2019, Russo tweeted that the film would indeed be rated R and that the fatalities from the game "will finally hit the big screen."Joe Taslim was the first actor cast for the July 2019 production as Sub-Zero. In August, Mehkad Brooks, Tadanobu Asano, Sisi Stringer, and Ludi Lin were cast as Jax, Raiden, Milina, and Liu Kang, respectively.  Later that month, Josh Lawson, Jessica McNamee, Han Chin, and Hiroyuki Sanada joined the roles of Kano, Sonya Blade, Shang Tsung, and Scorpio respectively, along with Lewis Tan in an unknown role.  On September 16, 2019, it was announced that Max Huang would play the role of Kong Lao.  On November 11, 2019, Elissa Cadwell was announced for the role of Nitara. On December 4, 2019, Matilda Kimber was assigned an unknown role in the film.
